Sentara Health Plans credentialing for behavioral health
Checked against our own applications on
Short answer
- Sentara says its behavioral health network is full in every region and line of business. New requests go on a waiting list.
- Send a Request for Participation packet by email to Sentara's network recruiting team.
- Sentara reviews requests in the order received and asks providers not to send status requests. It notifies you.
What to send
- Sentara's Request for Participation form, filled out for the group (your Type 2 NPI) and region.
- The group's W-9.
- A provider roster listing each clinician.
- A signed Disclosure of Ownership.
- A signed Offshore Attestation (whether any work is done outside the US).
Email the packet to PrvRecruit@sentara.com and ask to be added to the behavioral health waiting list.
Checking status
We learned this one by trying every route:
- Provider Services (1-800-648-8420) sends participation questions to the credentialing department.
- The credentialing line (877-865-9075) is an automated menu. For application status it says to email shpcreddept@sentara.com.
- Credentialing forwards requests for new participation to Network Management, which runs the waiting list.
- Network Management confirmed our packet was received and in the queue, and asked us to stop sending status requests because they slow reviews down.
So after you get a confirmation, wait. We check again only after several weeks have passed.
Meanwhile
A closed network can reopen when a plan needs your specialty in your area. In the meantime, join the plans that are open. See Virginia Medicaid credentialing for the other Cardinal Care plans.
